In 2004, Semra Ahiska King earned a full scholarship from the Council of Higher Education of Turkey. As a result, she moved to the United States to pursue doctoral studies. She enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State University. In 2008, she completed her doctorate and began her academic career. Shortly afterward, she joined Galatasaray University as an Assistant Professor in the Industrial Engineering Department. There, she taught operations research courses in both English and French. Over time, she spent more than ten years in this role, gaining extensive teaching experience.
Teaching Interest
Ahiska King’s teaching focuses on Operations Research–related courses across several core areas. Specifically, she teaches mathematical programming modeling and its real-world applications. In addition, she covers stochastic processes and discrete optimization methods. She also teaches inventory management and the analysis of production and service systems. Furthermore, her courses include logistics engineering and engineering economic analysis. Through this range of topics, she helps students build strong analytical and decision-making skills for complex systems.
Education
Ph.D. Industrial Engineering NC State University 2008
M.S. Industrial Engineering Galatasaray University 2003
B.S. Industrial Engineering Istanbul Technical University 2001
Area(s) of Expertise
Ahiska King's research focuses on applying stochastic processes to manufacturing and remanufacturing systems. In addition, she studied planning and control problems in systems with product substitution and multiple suppliers. She also worked on mathematical programming methods for product assembly and logistics network design
