Join more than 1,600 OR, ISE, IMSE and MEM alums in a private LinkedIn group. It is a great place to network with fellow engineers, find job openings, post job openings and ask questions of your fellow wolfpackers. Job Board

We encourage you to use the OR (ePack) Job Board to explore new opportunities. However, to apply or post your job, you must be a member of NC State’s Alumni Association, unless you’re a current student or graduated within the past year.

Volunteer

Your time and experience can shape the future of OR students. By volunteering, you help students grow and succeed. Moreover, when you speak in a class, lead a tour or guide a project, students gain real-world knowledge. You’ll give back to the department that helped you, and inspire the next generation of operations research practitioners.

Besides, it feels good to give your time where it truly matters.

One-time Events or Long-term Programs

One-time Events

You don’t need a huge time commitment to make a big impact.

  • Give a class presentation, join a panel, or lead a hands-on activity.
  • Additionally, judge final projects during Senior Design Day. You’ll see creative, real-world solutions from student teams.
  • Lead a facility tour and show how classroom ideas work in action.
  • Review resumes or help students practice for interviews. These are just a few ways to share your experience and make a difference in a day.

These are just a few ways to share your experience and make a difference in a day.

Long-term Programs

Furthermore, if you want a bigger role, try a semester-long commitment.

  • Sponsor an ISE Senior Design team. Students will work on your real challenge and present solutions by the end of the semester.
  • Help students stay on track, apply course skills and solve problems that matter.

Volunteering FAQ

What is the time commitment for volunteering?

We understand that volunteers have busy schedules and would never ask you to overcommit to a program or event. Some volunteering opportunities are one-time events that require a few hours of your day. Other programs span a semester, like the Senior Design Sponsorship.

Whatever type of volunteer you want to be, OR has options for you to choose. For more information, contact Linda Smith | lcsmith2@ncsu.edu | 919.515.2350.

Are there costs to volunteering?

Volunteers receive a parking pass for the day of their event on campus. Additionally, no special training is needed for our events. Oftentimes, food is provided.

Will I be asked to donate to the OR Program?

Volunteering your time and sharing your experiences are just as important as financial gifts. We understand our volunteers give what they can. Your time and resources are valuable, and your drive to make a difference in a student’s life is greatly appreciated.

What is expected of me when I volunteer?

We are looking for alumni and volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the OR community. We value all levels of knowledge and experience and hope that you share your wisdom with students.

Each volunteer experience has different expectations. Volunteering opportunities for one-time events require a few hours of your day. Other programs that span a semester need you to set aside time to help your students.
