Bio

Sebastian (Seb) Heese is the first faculty member to hold the Owens Distinguished Professorship of Supply Chain Management.

Sebastian Heese is a distinguished scholar and academic leader in supply chain and operations management. He currently serves as the Owens Distinguished Professor for Supply Chain Management at NC State University, a position he has held since August 2016.

Prior to joining NC State, Professor Heese held several senior leadership and faculty roles at EBS Universität für Wirtschaft und Recht in Germany. From 2016 to 2017, he served as Dean of EBS Business School, while concurrently contributing to the advancement of supply chain research and education as Executive Director of the Institute for Supply Chain Management (2013–2016). During this period, he also held the SGL Carbon Endowed Chair and Professorship in Supply Chain Management.

Earlier in his career, Professor Heese spent nearly a decade at Indiana University Bloomington, where he progressed from Assistant Professor of Operations Management (2004–2010) to Associate Professor of Operations Management (2010–2013).

Area(s) of Expertise

Heese's research aims at increasing the efficiency of production and service operations systems, and often focuses on the interest conflict in decentralized supply chains. His work has been widely published in the leading international academic journals.
