The Operations Research Program (OR) is building a strong reputation in military mathematics. Four of its students recently won the Omar N. Bradley Officer Research Fellowship in Mathematics. This achievement strengthens the university’s standing as a top school for military scholars applying math to real-world challenges.
The four awardees, LTC Ryan Andersen, MAJ Austin Semmel, MAJ William Kirschenman and MAJ Warren Kay, continue a tradition of excellence. The Omar N. Bradley Foundation awards this fellowship to active-duty and reserve officers studying mathematical sciences. Recipients must demonstrate strong research skills and the potential to make a significant impact.
This year’s winners follow past OR scholars, including Russ Nelson and William Kirschenman, who brought national attention to the program. Their success shows that NC State attracts and develops exceptional talent.
OR blends mathematical modeling with practical problem-solving. Military officers choose it to enhance decision-making and efficiency through data analysis. Ranked as a top 10 school by Military Friendly, the program provides an outstanding environment for service members to conduct research. The growing list of fellowship recipients highlights the university’s role in advancing military mathematics and operations research.
By producing top scholars year after year, OR reinforces its place as a leader in military-focused math research. The latest fellowship winners add to this tradition and ensure the university remains at the forefront of operations research and national defense applications.
