The Operations Research (OR) Program once again came together to celebrate its vibrant community at the Third Annual OR Alumni Reunion, held at the beloved Raleigh Times Bar in downtown Raleigh. The lively, brick-walled atmosphere of The Raleigh Times provided a warm and inviting setting as alumni and students mingled and shared stories from across the years.
Director’s Welcome and Vision for the Future
The event began with opening remarks from Maria Mayorga, Goodnight Distinguished Chair in Operations Research. She welcomed the crowd and provided a dynamic overview of recent program developments. Her forward-looking comments sparked enthusiasm as she outlined new initiatives and ambitious goals designed to shape the future of Operations Research at NC State. Mayorga was followed by OR alumna Natalia Summerville, who shared her vision of the future of operations research and the critical role OR analysts will play in industry.
Honoring Student Excellence
The reunion was also a moment to recognize excellence among students. The newest graduates of the program received a round of enthusiastic applause for their accomplishments and perseverance. The evening culminated in the presentation of the Salah E. Elmaghraby Distinguished Student Award, one of the program’s most prestigious honors. This year’s recipient, Will Kirschenman, was celebrated for his exceptional leadership, academic achievement and contributions to the OR community.
A Community United
Attendees also had the opportunity to collect some exclusive OR swag, adding a bit of fun and flair to the evening. These keepsakes were a hit among the crowd and served as tangible reminders of a night filled with camaraderie and shared pride. The Third Annual OR Alumni Reunion succeeded in uniting past, present, and future members of the Operations Research Program. With friendships rekindled, new connections formed, and achievements honored, the event underscored the strong community that continues to define and elevate the OR Program.
