The NC State Graduate School had some exciting news to share today. Zhishan Guo, who is an associate professor in Computer Science at NC State, has just become a member of the Operations Research (OR) faculty. This is a big deal because he’s being recognized for his accomplishments in the areas of real-time scheduling and machine learning theories, which are all about making smart machines even smarter.
Let’s take a closer look at Guo’s journey. Back in 2009, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Technology from Tsinghua University. Two years later, he went on to get his master’s degree in Mechanical and Automation Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
But here’s where it gets interesting. Guo decided to head to North Carolina to continue his education. He pursued a doctorate in Computer Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. It’s worth noting that he also worked as an assistant professor at the Missouri University of Science and Technology before moving to the University of Central Florida. While at UCF, Guo earned the title of associate professor. Finally, in August 2022, he joined the Computer Science Department at NC State.
Now, why is Guo such an exciting addition to the Program? Well, first of all, he’s really passionate about teaching computer systems and algorithms. This means he can help students learn and understand these complex subjects. But that’s not all – he’s also an expert in embedded systems and real-time cyber-physical systems. In simple terms, he knows a lot about making computers and machines work in real time, which is crucial in today’s fast-paced world.
Maria Mayorga, who holds the OR Distinguished Chair, is thrilled to have Guo join the OR Program. She encourages everyone to give him a warm welcome. With his expertise and dedication, Guo is sure to make a positive impact on the Program and the students he teaches.
