Will Kirschenman is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Operations Research Program at NC State University. His research focuses on addressing limitations in classical two-dimensional bin packing problems by developing a novel prioritization-driven framework that integrates operational priorities and concepts from Facility Layout Planning. This framework utilizes a flexible weighted-distance objective function, and his work develops and evaluates decomposition-based solution methodologies that provide significant improvements in computational efficiency for realistic problem instances, balancing spatial utilization with operational needs for applications in military logistics and broader industrial contexts.
Research Interests
Kirschenman’s research interests encompass combinatorial optimization and the development of effective computational techniques for solving complex problems, with a particular focus on military applications.
