Hou-An Chen is a PhD student in Operations Research at North Carolina State University, specializing in modeling, data analysis and machine learning. In addition to his research, Hou-An is an active violinist with the Raleigh Civic Symphony. In his free time he enjoys classical music, cooking, traveling and taking photos.

With a strong foundation in applied mathematics, Hou-An’s research includes economic matching frameworks for food bank operations and optimization heuristics for sparsity in optimization problems, bridging theoretical rigor and practical application.
