Dedication to the Program

Linda Smith, the Executive Assistant of Operations Research (OR), was honored with the prestigious Pride of the Wolfpack Award. This award highlights individuals who exemplify the core values of the university. Smith’s diligent work and unwavering dedication have solidified her position as an essential member of the OR program.

When asked about receiving the award, Linda Smith expressed, “I am very pleased and proud to receive this award! This recognition is a real honor and is definitely a highlight of my career.” Regarding her nomination by students, she shared, “I am very touched that the students nominated me for the award. They’re the reason I do what I do!”

One aspect that sets Smith apart is her fervent dedication to supporting students, which caught the attention of her nominators, Mat Fukuzawa and Gregory Bremser. Fukuzawa praised her efforts, stating, “I nominated Linda because she deserves recognition for all her work behind the scenes to ensure things run smoothly in the OR Program.”

Despite her contributions often going unnoticed, Smith’s pivotal role in the program’s success is undeniable. Fukuzawa emphasized the importance of acknowledging individuals like Smith for their selfless dedication. He highlighted, “Although much of the work that Linda does is never seen by most people, we need to recognize the contributions of people like her who selflessly perform their duties so that the students and faculty can be successful. Whenever I’ve had an administrative question, Linda has been my go-to for the answer. She also kept me aware of the numerous deadlines and forms needed to complete the program.”

Having been part of the program for many years, Smith possesses a wealth of knowledge about the university’s operations that serves as a valuable resource for both students and faculty. Maria Mayorga, the Goodnight Distinguished Chair in OR, remarked, “Linda plays a critical role in making everything run smoothly. She is particularly passionate about helping students.”

The Pride of the Wolfpack Award not only acknowledges Smith’s dedication and hard work but also positions her as a significant pillar of support within the OR program and the broader university community.
