The NC State OR Team
The OR department works closely with many other departments on NC State’s campus, such as Civil Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business Management. However, you will especially work with the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute (IMSEI).
Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State is one of only five named ISE departments in the U.S. Additionally, it ranks among the top 15 programs in the country according to U.S. News and World Report. Currently, the department has a diverse research focus in:
- Advanced and Biomedical Manufacturing
- Health Systems
- Human Factors and Ergonomics
- Supply Chain and Logistics
- Systems Analytics and Optimization
Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute
To improve manufacturing productivity and respond to global competition, the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute (IMSEI) at North Carolina State University is leading the way. IMSEI combines academic and industry experts, resources, and ideas to create cutting-edge manufacturing systems, research, and education.
IMSEI’s specific mission is to:
- Offer multi-disciplinary graduate-level education and practical training in integrated manufacturing systems engineering at the master’s degree level.
- Combine university and industry expertise to conduct research that develops advanced manufacturing technology.
- Advance modern manufacturing technology through interactive technology transfer, including internships that connect university research with industrial applications.
